Nusuk is the official Saudi platform for everything to do with Umrah permits. If you want to perform Umrah, book a Rawdah appointment, reserve a prayer slot in the Haram or get an Umrah permit, this is where it happens. There is no way around it and no third party site that does it properly.
Setting up the account takes about fifteen minutes. Doing it badly costs people their Rawdah slot, so it is worth doing carefully.
Do this before you fly, not after you land
We cannot stress this enough. Register and verify your account weeks before your trip, ideally as soon as you have booked.
Reasons:
- Verification is not instant. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days.
- Rawdah slots open 10 days ahead and disappear in minutes. If you are still waiting for verification when your window opens, you have missed it.
- If something goes wrong with your details, you want time to fix it from home, not from a hotel lobby in Madinah.
Step 1: Get the real app
Download Nusuk from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Check the publisher is the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
There are copycat apps and lookalike websites. Some of them simply charge you for something that is free. The official website is nusuk.sa. If a site is not that domain, be suspicious.
You can do most of this in a web browser instead of the app if you prefer. The app is better for permits and QR codes once you are there.
Step 2: Create the account
Choose the pilgrim or visitor account type, then enter:
- Your full name exactly as printed in your passport. Not your nickname, not a shortened version, not your married name if the passport says otherwise.
- Passport number, checked twice.
- Nationality and date of birth.
- Email address you actually check.
- Mobile number with the correct country code.
The name and passport number are the fields that cause trouble. Nusuk cross checks them against your visa. If the spellings do not match, your permit can fail at the gate and the staff there cannot fix it for you.
Copy the details from the passport page itself, not from memory.
Step 3: Verify your email and phone
You get a code by email and usually one by SMS. Enter both.
If the email does not arrive:
- Check spam and promotions.
- Wait ten minutes before requesting another code, because requesting repeatedly sometimes queues them up and none arrive.
- Try a different email provider. Some corporate mail servers block it.
If the SMS does not arrive, confirm you entered the country code correctly. For a US number that is +1 followed by the ten digits, with no leading 1 after the code.
Step 4: Upload your documents
Expect to provide:
- A clear photo of your passport data page.
- A personal photo, plain background, face visible, no hat, no sunglasses. Essentially a passport style photo.
- Your visa, once you have it.
Take the passport photo in daylight, flat on a table, no flash glare across the text. Blurry uploads are the most common reason a verification gets rejected, and a rejection means starting that step again.
Step 5: Wait for approval
Your account moves to a verified state once the documents are accepted. You will get an email. Until then, you cannot book anything.
If it has been more than three days, check whether a document was rejected rather than just waiting. The status is visible in your profile.
Adding family members
This is the part people search for most, and it works differently from what you would expect. You do not create separate accounts for your children. You add them as dependents under your own profile.
For each family member you will need their own passport details and photo. Once added, they appear as selectable names when you book a permit or a Rawdah slot, so you can book for the whole family in one go.
Children in particular have their own quirks on Rawdah bookings, and we have written that up separately because so many people hit it: how to add children to your Rawdah booking on Nusuk.
What you can actually do once you are set up
- Umrah permits. Required for performing Umrah. See is an Umrah permit required for when and how often.
- Rawdah appointments in Masjid an Nabawi. Open 10 days ahead. Read how to get a Rawdah appointment when no slots are available.
- Prayer and tawaf slots in the Haram during busy periods.
- Umrah packages from approved providers, which is how the new multiple entry visa works. See the one year multiple entry Umrah visa.
- Ziyarat bookings for some sites, including the Kiswa factory. See how to visit the Kiswa factory.
Common problems and what actually fixes them
“My name does not match my visa.” Correct it in Nusuk to match the passport exactly. If the visa itself has the error, contact whoever issued it immediately, because this one does stop you at the gate.
“No slots available” for everything. Usually a timing problem rather than an account problem. Slots release at specific times and you need to be there when they do. The Rawdah article above covers the timing.
“The app keeps logging me out.” Update the app. Older versions break after platform updates. If it persists, use the website.
“I cannot add my child.” Check the child has their own passport number entered, and that their date of birth puts them in the right age bracket. The system treats infants differently from older children.
“My permit disappeared.” Permits are tied to specific dates and times. Once the window passes, the permit is spent. Check you are not looking at an expired one.
One honest piece of advice
Set the account up while you are sitting at your own desk with your passport in your hand and good wifi. Not on the plane, not in the taxi, not in the hotel.
The people who have a smooth Umrah are almost always the people who did the boring admin a month early. The people who miss the Rawdah are almost always the ones who tried to do it the night before.
If you book with us we will walk you through the Nusuk setup as part of the trip, and we will check your name spellings against your visa before you fly rather than after. Get in touch if you would rather not do it alone.
